Account types, plans, and card seats explained

The difference between individual and business accounts, how plans work, and what a card seat is.

This guide clears up the vocabulary so you can choose the right setup and avoid surprises.

Individual vs business accounts

When you sign up you choose an account type:

  • Individual — best for solo professionals, freelancers, and creators. One person, their cards, codes, and links.
  • Business — best for teams. Adds an organization with multiple members, role-based access, and a shared inventory.

You can change direction later; the choice mainly tailors your initial setup.

What a plan includes

Plans differ by the limits and capabilities they unlock, typically including:

  • How many active codes, links, and cards you can have.
  • How much analytics history you can see.
  • Team features such as seats and roles.
  • Advanced features like custom domains and API access.

Start on the free plan to learn the product, then upgrade when you hit a limit that matters to you.

What a card seat is

A card seat is what allows a digital card to use the premium, ad-free experience and download features. New accounts can create a card right away; certain capabilities — like an ad-free public card page — are tied to having a seat.

  • Free cards are fully shareable and are supported by ads on the public card page.
  • Upgrading a card to a seat removes those ads and unlocks the premium experience.

If you manage several cards for a team, your plan's included seats determine how many can be premium at once; you can add more seats as you grow. See invite your team and manage roles for how seats interact with members.

Choosing what is right for you

  • Networking on your own? An individual account on the free plan is plenty to start.
  • Running campaigns or a brand? Consider a paid plan for more codes, longer analytics history, and a custom domain.
  • Managing a team? A business account with enough seats keeps everyone in one shared, auditable workspace.
